Roger Excoffon would be 100
Roger Excoffon is in the place of honour in that moment. Last week the french publishing house Ypsilon announced the imminent release of the long awaited first biography (french/english) of this exceptionnal type designer. Today it is the parisien Gianna Sistu gallery's turn to announce a retrospective exhibition of the great man, essentially centered on his painted work.
Besides being in advertising and typography, Excoffon was indeed above all a painter. He used to consider himself so. For about fifteen years he would practise drawing and painting in several free academies in Paris. He admired the masters of Lyrical Abstraction : Hartung, Mathieu, Soulages and their spontaneous touch.
The event is organised by the Roger Excoffon's descenders, in order to celebrate his birthday centennial. The exhibition is made up with pieces from the family collection.
